GARAGES AND WAREHOUSES
Ministry of Transport and Rolling Stock Management Centre Operations Centre.
In form, the building blends well with the adjacent road infrastructure (H ramp of the Turcot Interchange), but is also adapted to the new configuration of Pullman Street. Its “L” shape creates an interesting built front, masking garage entrances and mineral spaces for maneuvering. The building is set back from future sidewalk; this, the trees planted in front and the vegetated wooden fence mirror Falaise St-Jacques on the other side of the street. The space between the centre and the salt storage facility accommodates the heavy vehicle entrance.
The volumetry of the Centre has been designed to maximize the natural light entering into the offices, as well as living spaces and garages. The offset between the two floors at the intersection of the two wings of the building marks the main entrance and opens up roof space, where the vegetation occupies the same level as the large conference room. The envelope expresses a cohabitation of administrative uses and maintenance by combining open concrete and cedar in the cladding. Overall, the building creates an impression of movement despite its very linear contours.
