National circus school

PROVINCIAL COMPETITION FINALIST

Neighbouring the Cirque du Soleil installations and the Saint-Michel Environmental Complex, the project for the construction of the NATIONAL CIRCUS SCHOOL, is an integral part of the Cité des arts du cirque. Harmoniously interwoven into the Cité’s landscape, it embodies and enriches it with its vibrant presence. A series of blocks, nested between green spaces and expressively articulated along a main axis, beneath a luminous glazed atrium, hold the various components of the project: training spaces, a documentation centre, a cafeteria, as well as the academic and administrative wings.

The interplay between volumes, shapes, materials, textures, colours and light induce a constantly evolving exploration of the space, a universe rich in sensorial, visual and tactile experiences. As part of its artistic mission, the proposed building of the National Circus School must convey an image where creation dominates the building interpretation while respecting its teaching vocation.
