New Water Garden City of Wuqing

COMPETITION BY APPOINTMENT

The Wuqing master development plan sets guidelines for the physical and spatial organization of the New Water Garden City. They draw on the city’s rich heritage, but also offer a modern vision of the future in order to provide city dwellers with a fulfilling, safe and quality environment.

The winning concept is built around the respectful integration of one of the most important symbols of Chinese civilization: the Grand Canal.

Our proposal recognizes the Canal’s importance in the history, economy and culture of Wuqing district, and celebrates its symbolic meaning by designating it as the central motif in the development project.

The Master Plan provides for an infrastructure that will support and promote the city’s urban development through a functional organization of living, working, entertainment, recreation, tourism and cultural areas within a sustainable environment that will position Wuqing on the international stage as a unique city and a model of development and modernity.
