Provencher_Roy is proud to announce that the team behind the Port of Montréal’s Grand Quai project is a finalist in the international Female Frontier Awards: Powered by WAN competition, in the Team of the Year category. What’s more – our team is the only Canadian one to be shortlisted.
What wonderful recognition of the colossal work accomplished by this motivated and competent team brimming with ideas. The team carried out the rehabilitation of an old pier, and transformed it into a River promenade that not only fulfills pedestrian needs in Old Montréal, but also serves to extend the Old Port’s linear park. Beginning as a simple installation modernization mandate, thanks to a motivated and imaginative team, the project has become a daring and compelling initiative that counts itself amongst Montréal’s 375th anniversary legacies.
As selfies evoking the project’s exceptional views of the city and River abound on social media, early success can be gauged by the fact that the Grand Quai is already one of the most photographed places in Montréal.
Characterized by her visionary qualities and desire to surpass herself, Partner Architect at Provencher_Roy, Sonia Gagné, led her team and clients to results above and beyond expectations. She created a group with a strong sense of collaboration, in which everyone was encouraged to give their very best. Through presenting a design with remarkable aesthetic appeal and innovative refurbishments, Sonia Gagné has become an essential and inspiring role model for emerging architects of the firm. Her work once again attests to the audacity, determination, and listening skills that are often required to produce distinguished projects.
Beyond the architectural merit of the project, this award celebrates the savvy and audacity of women in architecture, by encouraging them to assume their rightful place in design, management and innovation. The Grand Quai was designed by women in key roles, which undoubtedly influenced project vision and architectural attributes. As a firm that has been promoting internal equality for years, and encouraging emerging female architects and equity in all design fields, it’s a tremendous honour for Provencher_Roy to be among the 7 finalists. We also wish to congratulate our esteemed collaborators at NIPPaysage, NCK, ARUP RWDI, CSDesign, and of course, our female clients at the Port of Montréal.
Having recently celebrated International Women’s Day, this news further reminds us of our responsibility to value the work of women, highlight their essential role in projects, and foster true equality for all every day of the year!
