Carré Saint-Laurent: a new home for the Centre d’histoire de Montréal

From its opening in 2021, Mémoire des Montréalais (MEM), the future incarnation of the current Centre d’histoire de Montréal (CHM), will take up residence on the second floor of the Carré Saint-Laurent development. Its new mission will mark a departure from the CHM’s approach, with a shift toward a greater focus on contemporary Montréal. In late 2019, the CHM will close its doors at the current Old Montréal location, where it has been since the 80s. To bridge the gap until the MEM moves into its new home, the cultural institution will operate as a mobile museum, dubbed the MEMobile.

Located in the heart of the Quartier des Spectacles at the corner of Sainte-Catherine St. and Saint-Laurent Blvd., the Carré Saint-Laurent project, spearheaded by Société de développement Angus (SDA) in collaboration with architecture firm Provencher_Roy, represents a mixed-use complex that also includes office space, retail outlets and restaurants. The project is pursuing LEED New Construction Gold certification.
