Nicolas Demers-Stoddart

Gifted in the genesis of ideas and development of conceptual narratives, as a partner since 2017, Nicolas Demers-Stoddart mainly assumes the role of lead designer. His prior experience at the Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA) in New York, where he notably contributed to the design of the Marina Abramovic Institute, solidified his aptitudes and conceptual instincts. These abilities have been prodigiously expressed since his early days with Provencher_Roy in 2012, particularly in the context of competition proposals (National Monument to Canada’s Mission in Afghanistan, The Arbour – George Brown College in Toronto, Port of Montréal’s Grand Quai and Cruise Terminal); and award-winning institutional projects (Reception Pavilion of the National Assembly of Québec). Convinced of the added value of architecture in infrastructure initiatives, Nicolas also participates in the design of civic projects with artistic and landscape integration components, such as the signature designs of the Louis-Hippolyte Lafontaine Bridge-Tunnel, Jacques Bizard Bridge, Alexandra Bridge in Ottawa, and the new Samuel-De Champlain Bridge in Montréal.

In tandem with his professional practice, Nicolas has taught at Université de Montréal (for the Faculty of Environmental Design) and at Polytechnique Montréal. From 2018 to 2021, he has been part of the Comité consultatif d’urbanisme (CCU) of Montréal’s southwest borough, and he is regularly invited to speak publicly about architectural design challenges at conferences, workshops, and exhibitions (1:X of the Faculty of Environmental Design at the Université de Montréal). Concerned first and foremost with conceptual integrity, he advocates for a multidisciplinary approach as the way of the future in the architectural and environmental design professions.
