La Maison Théâtre

COMPETITION

The proposal submitted in the architecture contest for the multifunctional room of the Cégep du Vieux Montréal and the Maison Théâtre aims to completely free up the principal facade so it can house animated public spaces opening onto the street.

This intervention helps create safe, pleasant and visually permeable entrances along Ontario St., for an interface that is both functional and inviting.

Located at the confines of the Quartier des spectacles and the Quartier latin, the project has the potential to evolve into a genuine interactive and innovative destination that does justice to the festive environment all around it.

The concept includes the relocation of the parking access ramp to Avenue de l’Hôtel de Ville; the creation of a convivial outdoor space at the theatre entrance while providing the Cégep’s existing southwest entrance a new ambiance; the linking of the Cégep’s Bloc C (sports) to the new multi-functional room; the sensitive integration of a building onto a small site in order to maximize the latter’s potential; and the incorporation of a restaurant area on the ground floor.
