Philippe Mizutani

Lead Designer, Partner, Architect OAQ, LEED AP

Philippe Mizutani joined Provencher_Roy after obtaining his master’s degree from McGill University in 2005. With the experience he gained while working in Japan for the firm Hideyuki Nakayama Architecture in 2010 and 2011, he rejoined the practice in 2012 and became a partner in 2021.

Philippe plays a singular role at the intersection of the technical and the aesthetic. From the scale of architectural detailing to that of mechanical and structural systems, he possesses a technical mastery and a keen understanding of the constructive and material dimensions of architecture, which translate into his exceptional ability to synthesize and develop inventive solutions. His keen interest in experimentation, particularly with models, as well as his use of digital design tools, have given him a decisive role in the development of projects at all scales such as the renovation of the Place des Arts esplanade in Montreal, the master plan for the Technopôle Angus and Pointe-à-Callière’s Fort Ville-Marie museum.

From transportation infrastructure to the cultural, institutional and residential spheres, the variety of mandates in which Philippe Mizutani participates enriches his versatility, his contextual sensitivity, as well as the spectrum of typologies with which he is familiar. In recent years, the health sector has become his main playground. From concept development to the execution phase, his latest contributions include the Sacré Coeur Hospital extension, the Montreal Heart Institute’s “Investing in Excellence” project, as well as to the conceptual development of the new Vaudreuil-Soulanges Hospital.
