Embodying responsible values

Committed to sustainability since 1983.

Since the firm's inception, sustainable development has been integral to all our projects and in every aspect: from the design of public spaces to the selection of materials, energy efficiency, and climate change mitigation.

Claude Bourbeau (President, Principal Partner, and Architect) introduced integrated design into Provencher_Roy's practice and built a team of architects specialized in sustainable development. This team is now one of the largest in Canada and proactively considers innovative and ecological development approaches.

Our commitment to sustainability extends beyond our projects. It is also reflected in our internal practices and governance. In 2011, we adopted our first environmental policy. In 2012, we took part in the BNQ 21000 pilot project, which provides a structured framework for organizations seeking to integrate sustainability across all their activities.

This continuous improvement process has evolved over the years. In 2016, we published our first Social Responsibility Report, along with our first carbon emissions inventory. In 2022, a second report was released to assess the post-pandemic context.

In 2023, Provencher_Roy embarked on an ESG approach (Environmental, Social and Governance), broadening the scope of its commitments. The objective is to strengthen governance transparency, promote equity, diversity and inclusion, support community engagement, and foster employee well-being. This first report covers the 2023–2024 period and constitutes the first official summary of this initiative.

Committed to resilient design and responsible construction

Decarbonization plans, life-cycle assessments, and biophilic performance analyses are integral to our work. Our standards already incorporate sustainability measures that go beyond building codes while remaining achievable within today’s construction industry.

We view every project as an ongoing collaboration that takes into account medium and long-term human and economic contexts, the potential and opportunities of each site and program, as well as responsible commitments and sustainable practices.

We meet the highest technical standards by analysing the realities of existing buildings, the high performance of built environments, and the evolution of current codes, regulations, and standards.
