Avenue du Musée was crossed by a huge, colourful silhouette during the Thierry Mugler: Couturissime exhibition.

Drawn on the ground and visible from above, this installation was inspired by three of Mugler’s key themes—texture, metamorphosis, and femininity—extending the exhibition into public space through the use of the great couturier’s signature medium.

7,000 vibrantly coloured sequins covered the ground, offering pedestrians a unique urban experience. Made of photochromic film, they were placed at a slight angle to capture as much light as possible. The experience changed with the sunlight and viewing angles: the surface sparkled under the summer sun or boldly displayed its colours on cloudy days.

The sloping topography of Avenue du Musée allowed visitors to take in the shimmering surface from Sherbrooke Street, offering a striking view of the large silhouette stretching across it.

The sequins outlined a gigantic gold-hued “femme fatale.” Visible from above, she formed a curving pedestrian pathway, inviting passersby to walk through or pause for a moment of contemplation on the integrated seating elements. Designed as a bas-relief, the installation preserved visual connections to the surrounding permanent artworks and their rich architectural context. It became a backdrop for numerous spontaneous events, casual gatherings, and artistic happenings, enhanced by the low seating punctuating its curves and animating its surface.
