Built in 1910, the original Baril School held significant heritage value, both for the history of Montréal's architecture and for the local community.

The building, in a state of irreversible deterioration due to significant mold infestation, made its demolition the only viable option.

The design of the new building incorporates the restoration, renovation, and enhancement of the historic entrance of the original school.

The concept for the new school is largely inspired by the original building and, through its placement and volume, aims to restore the institution's prominent presence within its context while respecting its mission, which went well beyond its educational role. The new Baril School is designed in line with its time and current challenges.
